Drew Powell
Drew Powell is a professional football star who recently signed with the Albany Empire of the Arena Football League. He has also spent time in the CfL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, as well as winning the MVP award and leading his team to a championship victory in the IFL with the Iowa Barnstormers. He played his college football at Livingstone College where he was presented with multiple awards while breaking 11 school records to go along with 3 conference records. In 2012 he was named the conference rookie of the year, and in 2015?was named Division 2 Player of the Year while setting a conference record for most total yards in a career with 10,881.
after college he was faced with adversity when he was not drafted by an NFL team or offered a contract from any other league. “That was a rough year for me” says Powell. This is when he says he came up with the name for his brand Grind By Faith “ I spent a whole year, dedicating myself to becoming the best person I could be so when that oppurtunity did come I would never look back, I called this time... becoming him” February 2017 is when that oppurtunity came with a contract from the IFL’s Sioux Falls Storm but not without more adversity, although he made the team it was only as the backup Quarterback and he saw limited playing time, then later in the season he was released. Powell’s perserverance would serve him well as he was able to get a a chance to shine with the Nebraska Damger who signed him just two days after his release. His first action was on a big stage against the Arizona Rattlers having to step in at the begining of the second Quarter after an unimpressive performance from the previous starting quarterback. Powell did exactly what he set out to do which was not look back after his oppurtunity was presented. After 4 games with the Danger where he was able to propel his team into the playoffs in a late season push, unfortunately his team lost in the first round. His success would catch the eyes of evryone around the league and in 2018 signed with the Iowa Barnstormers, in this season he was named Player of the Week 5x, won the leauge championship, and was named league MVP. These prestigous awards caught the eyes of CFL teams as he sighed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in October 2018. “ Coming from smaller school i always wanted to prove it to others and myslef that i could dominate on any level just as i did in college, all i neede was the oppurtunity“ Powell resides in his home town Upper Marlboro, Maryland in the offseason.
